*Principal District and Sessions judge Raja Shujat Ali inaugurated children home cum OSC at Shiekhpora Budgam.*

This is first of its kind home in District Budgam/ MD ICPA

Budgam, November 16: Children Home cum OSC for distressed women and children was today inaugurated by Principal, Distrct and Sessions Judge Budgam, Raja Shujat Ali in presence of Mission Director ICPS, Miss Shabnam Shah Kamli. The other dignitaries present on the occasion include CJM and Secretary DLSA Budgam Miss Tabasum Parry, DSWO, Dr. Farhana Asgar and other concerned.
 Speaking after the inauguration, the Principal and District Session Judge Raja Shujat Ali appreciated the efforts of ICPS particularly its head MD ICPA and equally sincere cooperation and collaboration of district Social Welfare Office Budgam for organizing such a human welfare based event.     He said there are various schemes launched also in operation for weaker sections of the community particularly for children below the age of 18 years and women above 18 years. He said establishing this kind of home, OSC will revolutionize the morale and also will bring long lasting confidence among distressed victims who could be inmates in such homes on occasions. He said this is a revolutionary initiative and must be supported by all walks of life. He added these centers will provide not only shelter to the victims but could too pivotal in revitalizing their confidence back with such energy that they can live there future life with dignity and honor.
The principal and Distrct sessions judge said, that our efforts shall be to help the administration as well as other NGOs to eradicate this menace of social injustice particularly domestic abuses and violences on rise at present from the gross root. He said administration alone shall not be able to stop this unprecedented menace with any iron hand. We all have to play our part sincerely and aware public in general about this all.
    The occasion was also addressed by CJM Miss Tabasum Parry, Secretary DLSA on behalf of legal services authority as the dignitary is confronting with such cases often under her authority.
    In her address Mission Director ICPA, Miss Shabnam Shah Kamli said that this is first of its kind home cum OSC established in the UT of J&K as it will have the facility and can cater the needs of children and women in distress who due to various reasons and circumstances mostly being pray of domestic violence’s and abuses need such rehabilitation. She said, apart from providing all requisite care including boarding, lodging, the inmates will be also envisaged with counseling sessions through qualified councilors. The director stressed upon all concerned to take the mission as challenge and it shall be our sincere desire and endeavor to help these distressed victims. She added that there is a need of cumulative effort from all to spread the message of conveyance and also aware common masses to demoralize the offenders besides come forward help the distressed victims to live their life at par with other sections of the community.
Earlier in her welcome address DSWO Budgam Dr. Farhana Asgar in detail unfurled the aim and objective of establishing of this home cum OSC. She said this home will cater various needs of our weaker sections of the society particularly women in distress and children underprivileged, abandoned and need special care, protection and attention, as Budgam has been witnessing a surge in cases of child marriages, domestic abuses and molestation/rape etc. She said ICPS staff has been trying hard to restore children in need of care and protection, they never let us fail in our efforts despite facing so many practical difficulties and challenges on the ground. Dr. Asgar while highlighting some activities under taken in this regard elaborated that there are 11 child care institutions established across district Budgam, 7 for boys and 4 for girls. These homes presently cater the needs of 256 children, 138 male and 118 female. She further added that 56 sponsorships have been received providing Rs. 2000- per month to the deserving children. She said under an enormous effort 5 babies who were abandoned have been given to foster care, in addition 207 counseling’s were done at ICPS office alone. Besides regular follow ups are taking place with due course.
The daylong event was attended by large gathering including NGOs and officials from ICPS, ICDS and Social welfare departments.
